Preface of ‘Fattening up frog for snake’

A Preface

What is Cecil Newry attempting to rid himself of via the release of his verse full of passion? It seems he’d burn up werethey not released. Is he getting his eight to ten glasses of water a day?  Would this cool him off? Would the result possibly be fewer poems, more falling tears, more falling stars?

These poems, intended to change the reader’s life, change the author’s life, I’m certain - a life which would, without his writing, be unbearable most likely. This reader though, especially in literature, seeks bricks to build the edifices which art requires.

Cecil Newry, in Fattening Up Frog for Snake, provides us many verses. Concerned about soundness, about structure, about substance, contemplating purchase, I examine these closely. I need what would withstand weather, weight, time, wear. Under pressure, will what Cecil has provided us, come apart, collapse into bits and pieces like biscuit?  Let time and use tell us and him. Good luck to Cecil and to what he adds to the Bahamian attempt to create a national literature.

Bahamas Issues: Response to Watsayu regarding planned Haitian one-day strike in the Bahamas!!!

So what you are suggesting is that the Haitians in the Bahamas are meeting in secret places in the dark…holding meetings concerning the politics of the Bahamas. Apparently there exist some well organised civic, social Haitian group that meets every monday evenings with branches from Eleuthera, Abaco, Mayguana and Fox Hill and Carmichael Road being present, making crucial decisions about the direction of Haitians in the Bahamas.

Watsayu, are you saying that this ‘zoe pound group’, beat vodoo drums at night summoning all Haitians and their decents to the hollow tree and the camp fire and have concluded that, ‘they ain’t going to work this tuesday.’

They ain’t ga weed, they ain’t ga show up to the big construction sites on PI, the arawak home projects, the fish fry moreover, the midnight cleaning crew.

Hmm, I find that hard to believe! Watsayu your group, it seems has too much time on you’ll hands, orchestrating conspiracy theories and propaganda in order to ensensed the entire Bahamian populace.

Rewind and come again, and explain why your FNM party so ineffective!

It was so interesting, but it was revealed to us that there is a plan afoot for all illegal Haitians to organize a one-day strike. Haitian-Bahamians and all Legal Haitians will join them as well. After carefully considering this bold and courage’s plan that is been planned right under our noses, I concluded that this could have a serious effect on our country.

What say you

Bahamas Issues: Election too important to vote independent

Nah, everybody knows that the general elections coming up soon, but seriously who we gan vote for. Man, I really getting desperate now; the Bahamas needs a saviour! I tired of just merely surviving in this country. It seems as if only a selected few getting a piece of the pie. The crumbs I getting just ain’t fulling me up dred! I bug! I dead screw ya know bullah!

It is quite clear that the PLP dem doing some odd things man; some peculiar things, just some dumb azz things, completely opposite to what the Bahamas needs to do in order to move to the next level, (sorry about the cliche). The entire party is filled to the brim with questionable characters man, who wantonly do as they like. They stay threatening and intimidating people, in fact throwing out people dem furniture out of their houses dred, calling civil servants them ’stupid and lazy’… Man, it seems as if they stay in the news concerning scandals. None of them knows what honourable really means. And can you imagine, they want me vote for them…they mussy crazy!

It is a fact that the prime minister is slow at making decisions and the decisions that he does make, leaves one questioning whether he is serious. (Clearly, he thinks Bahamian people dem stupid!). Does he really consult the public or is that a facade. Clearly he playing politics with our emotions. Him with his code of ethics…

The PLP still victimizes and they reek of the old regime; Everyday another old evil PLP from yesteryear happens to be named on some public board in order to rake in the big monies. Moreover, every so often we hear rumours about some strange side deals being made throughout the Bahamas at the expense of the public. Then there is the gated communities for the rich popping up left and right, regulating average Bahamians to live in the inner city. The three beaches we have in Nassau crowded when the rich have their private beaches to enjoy. And I ain’t forget about how they selling all dese private islands to foreigners, not to mention that their claim to fame anchor projects only benefit is to make us professional bed makers and waiters. Oh God the madness must stop! Give me free! It seems as if massa give the whip to Tom and he beating me bad with it.

Then there is the frigging FNM doing fart…you know them stink wet set, which ya can’t even breathe in . Now a days they seem to boycott e’ry and any damn thing…It seems as if Ingraham is purposely selling out his party to Mr. Christie again. I said it…AGAIN…

Where is Cassius Stuart, man? How come he allowing dem to whip us so?
My back hurting man. I is a tired. I jus want some more porrage. Not plenty… I tired of hearing Dexter Johnson dem speeches, they need to do something dred…not just look on…

Then there are the Independent MPs…just a waste a time…Men without a party being the official opposition to the actual opposition, while the country sinks. I can’t vote for dem. Clearly a waste a vote…And they promoting vote for the individual…How can I vote for individual when a party needs to run the government. Man it so bad in the Bahamas that if ya vote for an individual, you risk having the wrong party leading the Bahamas for 5 more years.

Only God can save us! Where the Bishop with the holy oil, we need to annoit a new prophet!
