Genebase.com: Searching for the ancestors
Thus far, it seems as if the all the Newrys in the Bahamas are the decendents of either James or Simeon Newry. I have yet to prove that they are actually brothers. However, both men appear to have the same father, i.e. James Newry (the supposed, original Newry). I have found death certificates for both James and Simeon Newry, (information furnished by a distant cousin, (Derek Newry) who himself have been actively researching the Newry clan.
Both James and Simeon were farmers. They both were burried in St. Mathew’s Grave Yard. The search for their grave markings have proven fruitless. St. Mathew’s Church and its grave yard is centuries old, however, numerous graves lay there unmarked, destroyed and in ruins. I fear my forefathers tombs like their bodies have been made into dust and have been sentenced to blow in the wind.
Nevertheless, I live in hope. For since the inception of my quest, my knowledge about my regal yet humble family have been enriched. No longer does their exists any ambiguity as to who I am and how I am related to the next of kin. I now see and have experienced the conection. I now understand my direction. For this simple project have linked me to scores of families who lay seperated and isolated due to the ignorance of not knowing themselves. I hope to bring a type of renaissance to my family. I hope to spark interest and excitment amongst the family which I have found. And hopefully, with that, we will become a family not just linked by our last name however, link via stories, history and a common cause of making a difference.
