Come January, what will we do if things aren't better. Not 'January' the month, but the New Year: a six month span, 12 months later...come 2010.
What if come January, there are more layoffs by the hundreds. What if the layoff spread from the hotels and the hotel sectors to the banks, to the small businesses over the hill, and G_d forbid to government agencies. Come January, what if the struggling city market chain goes bellyup; what if gas and electricity prices rockets again; what if the hotels on the family islands which has major impact on the island communities faults. Come January, what if the Port situation in freeport is not resolved, what if things become worst, if that is possible in Grand Bahama.

Come January, how will the National budget look? What will happen to the thousand of students who graduating. Come January what will our plan be.

It looks like our government has forgotten, or does not have the political will, or man power to accomplish such feats. Sad to say, it looks as if they don't even have a plan, be it 5 years or 10 year plan to achieve some of the things we need fix from yesterday.

Education: Carl is trying is best; but clearly his best isn't good enough. I want to know his plan. Yorick say's boarding schools for the youth. Carl smiles and says nothing. Some say longer school hours. Carl says nothing. Sunny and Concern say magnit/privatized schools. i.e. similar to the old Government high. But Carl is quiet. What is your plan man. Can something meaningful happen within this 5 year term? Or do we have to vote you in one more term to see the begining of change. I feel like yall holding me hostage.

Immigration: Branville, seems to be working hard. Every day you hear 6 immigrants get catch. However, we have a guessimation of 70k illegal immigrants living in the Bahamas. Surely it can't be that hard to find them. They all over the place. They at the hospitals, at the schools, at the clinics over PI, they own carmichael, the have they own settlement in the mud and pegion cay. Come one Bran, stop playing with our emotions.

Crime: Tommy, Tommy, Tommy. I know you mean well. So I aint ga hit you hard. It aint your fault. However, your police force is constantly accused for brutality, and corruption. Something wrong dread. Clean house. Plus we need a commissioner of police, not no acting. Yall need to make up yall minds.

Judicial system: Michael B. A smart man they say. But is he truly effective? Ah nope. Not when, the Court houses are being deemed condemned. There are cases that has been back logged since jabim. The judges them aren't happy and claim they under paid and the system just seems to take so freaking long. Not when rapist and murderers does get bail and wreak havoc on the public. Something wrong man. Imagine the society where we have wanting police and an inept judical system.

The economy: Well, some say its based on the US. However, Bahamians have been asking/suggesting that we diversify for years. Ah we aint no closer than we were under the Pindling regime. Be honest people. Farming aint working for us. We always talking about it. But has it really improved. Bahamians just need to start growing the vegetable in the back of their yards again. But on the real though. Hubert, Zhivargo, where we headed man? What direction you see us going. By the way, thanks for EPA. That ga really help us. It aint like we will all of a sudden get excited and start being productive over night. At least if we did sign CSME, we might have had gained some people who actually want to work.

Tourism: Vinnie, Vinnie, vinnie. How can you market a product that needs to be worked upon. You putting the cart before the horse. Fix up Bay Street. Fix the straw Market. Put bathrooms on beaches, fix up the forts, Fix the fish fry, create Bahamian tours, and modernize some of the family island to have electricity and running water first. OH yeah, the entire country needs to attend Bahama Host, free of charge, or near free.

November 4th, 2008. History will be made. Not no local history, but international history with rippling effect that will change the direction of the world. America will vote for change: Donkey change or elephant type change; either way, change is the operative word. In fact, it is the core for both American political parties campaigns.

But what's so amazing about this Amerian election is that the world is so entralled with this one. The last American election evoked star and celebrity power. Mega celebrities came forward encouraging people to vote and to support either this one or the next. Celebrities of all sects came out in droves, passionately expressing why Americans should vote this way or the other way. However, this election, both presidential candiates are celebrities in their own right, with Obama being the block buster celebrity. Some say, this is his election to lose.

America as a country is vain. They love the spotlight: the centre stage. They enjoy being big brother, the protector of the world, the knight in shining armor. They enjoy being the manipulators of change, the instigators of progress, the epitome of democracy and captialism. They enjoy being different, independent and full of themselves. Subsequently they always get the president they deserve and who they want. They did that with George Bush, in fact giving him two terms. Why? Because that was exactly what they wanted. Even though many persons may say differently. In essence, American wanted to feel secure during the last election and Bush equalled security. But this election isn't about security. It is about change. Change for the status quo; the American people and the world by extention desire to head in a new direction.

Now we are back again. However, this election isn't about just being president of the United States...its about being president of the world. The entire world is excited. The entire world is involved in their democratic process and what is more amazing America is embracing such. They are enjoying the world watching them. They are enjoying the world creating their own mock election process as to who they want to be president of the United States. However, in spite being flattered by the world's interest, America hates to be dictated to; they hate to be corner, subsequently at times, they tend to veer in opposite directions in order to prove a point.

In fact, whom the world may want as president may or may not be the same as to who America wants as their president. However, the world is definately lobbying and expressing their opinions. The pressure is on. The world is watching and waiting for their own President: their American president. And that president will be no other than...

Poetry review of Cynara’s Poem entitled Kiss You.

Hey Cynara,

Read poetry and have concluded that it is a sea of words: too much to swim in: too many currents and the undertow is a killer. One would need a big boat to navigate through these treacherous waters. The dinghy and makeshift paddles that I possess prove inadequate; so I drift, heading no where: directionless...loss. Only to hope that a savior, a wordsmith would throw in a ring of interpretation to save me...to save you.

sos

So the question remains,
What are you trying to say.
Surely kissing isn't so complex.
Shouldn't it be memorable,
passionate, hot, soft. Shouldn't one feel it immediate. Shouldn't there be an impression?

Kissing should involve moist lips, meeting of tongues, dancing, extending, saliva...intimacy
then wap! a kiss should either explode or evaporate.

However, your kiss, your poetry extended, and went on for miles. It became an arduous journey. It made my mouth heavy and tender.

I assume that this is a performance type poem. Subsequently, my opinion of such would change if I actually heard the poem. Performance poems tend to be only received well to the listening ear, but to read it, usually one must be already familiar with the poem. But even performance poems must capture the readers attention. Your lure, did not allure me at all. The stanzas ricocheted against each other. Sadly your poem did not make the impact it should have.

I searched for a rhythmic beat with the verse, however, I found none. To me it was a string of words and phrases. No complete thought. I am eager to know where you were heading. Which story were you telling. Which journey you were taking me on. I felt as if I were on one of them track roads out Adelade in an old car without shocks. I did not enjoy the ride.

Then there was the "boom da da..." a beat, a pulse...life?
However, I did not experience it. You must write simpler.
Write to be understood. There is no need to exercise your vocabulary or have an onslaughter of continuous phrases.
Express yourself clearly, convey a concise message. let the reader feel and experience the kiss.
Hi Cecil,

I hope you are well.

I was wondering how all is going with you and if you ever have the time to review any of my poetry. I did another recently and tried a different style. I am attaching it. Please let me know what you think.
Kiss You by Chaile Divine copyright 2008

the rhythmic beating of my heart

loudly moving in time with the wind

flowing through my hair

crescendo sound shaking my peaceful

form reminding me how alive i truly am

boom boom

it feeds on hot honey

swirling in my soul

da da

and its sweet

this feeling

boom boom

and i linger

in ecstasy

da da

breathing you

in with my thoughts

ba boom

and my heart races

and i imagine you here

da da

closing the space between us

ba boom

leaning in

da da

i smell you

ba boom

heady bouquet of manness

and i sway intoxicated

ta boom

by you

my hands find your waist

and my fingers explore

ba boom ta da

your sensual form

tada ba boom

all man and all sexy

ta boom da da

and i linger

and long for more of you

ta da ba boom da

cause there's something about you

with eyes that drown me in desire

lips that call me nearer

beckoning me for just a taste

ba ba ba boom da

so high now just a taste

and da da ba boom da

nose to nose

pupil to pupil

lips part and touch

ta ta boom ta ta ta ta

and i explode

in an instant

da da da boom

ba boom boom da

ta ta ba boom

Thats it.

Sincerely,
I searched for a rhythmic beat with the verse, however, I found none. To me it was a string of words and phrases. No complete thought. I am eager to know where you were heading. Which story were you telling. Which journey you were taking me on. I felt as if I were on one of them track roads out Adelade in an old car without shocks. I did not enjoy the ride.

Then there was the “boom da da…” a beat, a pulse…life?
However, I did not experience it. You must write simpler.
Write to be understood. There is no need to exercise your vocabulary or have an onslaughter of continuous phrases.
Express yourself clearly, convey a concise message. let the reader feel and experience the kiss.

I hope you are well.

I was wondering how all is going with you and if you ever have the time to review any of my poetry. I did another recently and tried a different style. I am attaching it. Please let me know what you think.

the rhythmic beating of my heart

loudly moving in time with the wind

flowing through my hair

crescendo sound shaking my peaceful

form reminding me how alive i truly am

boom boom

it feeds on hot honey

swirling in my soul

da da

and its sweet

this feeling

boom boom

and i linger

in ecstasy

da da

breathing you

in with my thoughts

ba boom

and my heart races

and i imagine you here

da da

closing the space between us

ba boom

leaning in

da da

i smell you

ba boom

heady bouquet of manness

and i sway intoxicated

ta boom

by you

my hands find your waist

and my fingers explore

ba boom ta da

your sensual form

tada ba boom

all man and all sexy

ta boom da da

and i linger

and long for more of you

ta da ba boom da

cause there’s something about you

with eyes that drown me in desire

lips that call me nearer

beckoning me for just a taste

ba ba ba boom da

so high now just a taste

and da da ba boom da

nose to nose

pupil to pupil

lips part and touch

ta ta boom ta ta ta ta

and i explode

in an instant

da da da boom

ba boom boom da

ta ta ba boom

Thats it.

Sincerely,

I know we don't have real money like that other developing nation called China for a massive opening ceremony, but we all know Bahamians does like and specialize in pomp and pageantry. Now when the FNM government came into power, they cancelled CARIFESTA 2008, in order for we to properly show of we things, build some buildings and paint some buildings. They say, this ga be the 'OLYMPICS of the Caribbean', their words. This event was going to be so grand that the Bahamas will need more hotel rooms, the airport suppose to be expanded, the Fish Fry suppose to improved with state of the art buildings and lightening etc. In truth, it was said, everything we have existing right now was too small and too umm, trifflin to host such a grand event. Well, two years later, and nothing yet. Hopefully, Atlantis will save us. Thank G_d for that company. Now they know how to put on a show. We ga dazzle our Caribbean bruddas with Atlantis. But that aint what I talking about anyways. When we ga start building these things the FNM promised us, which the PLP them neglected to sort out. When China got word they hosting the OLYMPICS, they started building immediately. The word was out. The knew they must perform, shine. And shine they did. But we last minute, culturally inept people, we wait and wait, and Carifesta coming to experience the same thing, the government them claim we need to improve upon. I aint asking for much, I just want be a part of a grand opening ceremony just like China's.

Its been over a year now since the FNM took the reign again, and our country's main thoroughfare still looks the same, i.e grimey. Our major tourism product mecca besides Atlantis is still lacking, yet we continue to remain silent; our government continue to be closed mouth.

Bahamians like good Christians continue to live in hope. Hope that soon, our one good leader, Mr. Ingraham will do something, will inact change. As in truth, we now realize more and more that it seems as if only he is is first rate, as the entire FNM party is lacking in leadership and direction and moreso, the PLP party is finished; bankrupt of original thought and insight.

There were talks of a green space, talks of moving the trailers, talks of erecting the straw market, talks about moving the straw market, talks of pressure washing, talks of commitees governing store owners and explaining their mandate to the Bahamas; in fact, there were even talk of changing the entire down town area, making it less Bahamian and more 'mordern', with condominiums and high rises, with more gucci and fendi shops. Yet nothing.

Mind you, there have been some new street signs and Bacardi has been brave enough to set up a novelty shop down town, but is that enough. It seems as if the more things change, the more things remain the same. But the truth is, Bahamians are hungry for change. We see the Caribbean quickly catching us up in sophistication, we see we are wavering in the world of competition and we see our children are at risk and their future more challenging that ever. Therefore, we demand change, look for change, humbly asking for change, nothing dramatic, something we can join in on and be proud of. Something that will encourage us to march on.

Is there still a need for such a movement, such a thinking? Do we still need to acknowledge our colour especially when in public. Do we need to be socially aware that we are being watched, being analysed, being stigmatised.

Should we even care now, as that time in history of white oppression has come and gone: forever disappeared, never to return. Should we just live now, carefree of others, at least when it comes to colour. In fact, colour does not matter. Bahamians are free of it, (purposefully left out the word black in front of Bahamians). Being a colour no longer describes our characteristics, explain our journey, our direction, our history and our way of thinking. There is no need to distinguish Bahamians as white Bahamians, as black Bahamians, even as chinese Bahamians, as we are one, walking the same road, desirous of one goal. There is no need to have a colour census, as to the ratio of whites vs blacks in prisions. There is no need to have a colour census as to the ratio of rich white Bahamians vs blacks, as such information no longer matters. There is no need for statistics as to who are having the bastard babies, who are smoking the dope/trafficking it, who are perpetrating all the crimes, for we are one and gleefully accept that this is a Bahamian problem and not a colour problem. I just want to know whether I still need to be black and proud and just be Bahamian and proud as we are one. Is there still a need to highlight black success stories, black heroes, black women who have survived and still live, better yet are living good.

Is there still a black sickness in the Bahamas? Do we still look down at ourselves? Is the white barbie doll still prettier, still preferred by our kind. Is that even a problem, or should we even care about what colour the doll is? Is there such a thing as black Bahamian culture, moreso white Bahamian culture, or are they one in the same? Do black bahamians still have an inert African way of thinking, and what about white Bahamians, do they have a latent European way of thinking. Why is it that, being call black still is a stigma in this Bahamas, in spite years of open talk, (has there been enough open talks). Why is it that being called conchiejoe in white communities is a dirty word to some? Is it the black blood they are upset about, concerned about?

There was a thread about classism in the Bahamas I quickly scanned through and decided not to comment on as no one there seemed to be able to provide statitics, mainly because there aren't statistics, therefore the thread is irrevelent and serves no purpose, as we still cannot clearly state who makes up the different classes. I remember reading once that there is a cry for Bahamian unity: one Bahamas. There was an invitation to white Bahamians, and to a lesser extent to the majority, black Bahamians. However, I thought we were one since 1973. Is there still a need for a formal unification. If there is, then I guess it is a fact that there exists a seperation.

Black Bahamians steriotype white Bahamians all the time. We call them the man. The rich people. The powers behind the government. Them set who own down town. But, no one ever questions and inquire about what steriotypes do white Bahamians see us as. Do they even sterio type, or have they transcended such, and such is a black desease. I know it seems as if, black Bahamians do all the crimes. I wonder if they talk about that in their homes? I know it seems as if we having all the bastard babies? I wonder if they talk about that in their homes. Has there been any open discussion about how we view each other, or truly there is no need for such discussions.

There is a train of thought that the black family is in jepordy. Perhaps white families are too? Perhaps they are facing the same issues: the fear of their children joining gangs, dealing drugs, becoming mobsters, selling off themselves in the streets. I am sure they suffer from the same single parent homes, the poor educational system, and the same fear of coming outside to play. However, should such things be dealt with on a national issue or within individual communities. No longer are our communities lay seperate, we now have white Bahamians in Bain and Grants Town. They are living in Chippingham, blue hills, in the grove, right on Peter Street, living joyously with their black brothers and sisters.

I am sure that there will be some, who will comment and say, I am in the victim mode of thinking. Not quite sure victim of what, as I am just asking questions. Just wondering if there is still a need to be black and proud, or is that era dead and gone, subsequently, there is no need for such thinking.
